Hattie Ward

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

I work as an Associate Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at BTC and I also have a private practice. Qualifying in 2009, I trained and worked for several years in NHS Psychotherapy services at the Pines in Warwick, and then later, at the Tavistock Clinic in London, (part of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust) where I completed a further rigorous professional clinical psychotherapy training, which specialised in working in a modern, multi-cultural context. I am a fully qualified and accredited member the BPC, (the British Psychoanalytic Council), the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I am also a member of the TSP, (the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists). I have a particular interest in relational, complex, developmental, and transgenerational trauma and keep up to date with current thinking and therapeutic advancements in treatment.

Our early relationships and environments can often lead us to over identify with and internalise the projections, expectations, and demands of others. Therapy offers a space for you to get to know and become reacquainted with your internal world. Over time, the therapeutic process may not only illuminate your conscious, but your unconscious narratives, to reveal a deeper understanding and connection with a more authentic sense of who you are in the present and how you relate to the world. I will endeavour to be a warm, empathic, and non-judgemental witness to your process. Together through the therapeutic relationship, I will sit beside you and provide the scaffolding, safety, and support, so you can explore your past and present experiences, thoughts, feelings, and patterns of relating.  It may not only alleviate the symptoms that are troubling you, but it may also help you to make deep seated changes to your personality and development.

I have extensive experience of working with a diverse range of adult presentations. People experiencing difficulties and distress with anxiety, depression, dissociation, loss, abandonment, bereavement, and feelings of emptiness. Relationship and attachment difficulties, parental narcissism, and family dysfunction. Anger, shame, low self-esteem. Gender identity, sexuality, racial and cultural identity, neurodiversity, addiction, eating disorder, borderline presentations, suicidality and self-harm, childhood neglect and abuse and people living with, and recovering from, the complex and adverse impact of severe and enduring childhood trauma.

I offer face to face and zoom sessions.
