I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor combining both elements of counselling and psychotherapy into my practice, using an integrative framework that draws on both humanistic and psychodynamic approaches.
I aim to foster long lasting transformation, and personal growth, by maintaining a focus on your present emotions, choice and personal meaning, whilst also being curious about historical conflicts, recurring themes and patterns of relating that may underly the emotional distress that has brought you to therapy. I will pay close attention to how you experience the world and ways of being in it, particularly present moment experiences, and what happens in the therapy room and our relationship.
I offer a safe, warm and supportive space in which to explore and make sense of the lens you look through: the beliefs you hold about yourself, and the world around you. I believe it’s possible for growth and change to take place by learning ways to respond more skilfully, instead of reacting in ways that are habitual and familiar. As a therapist, I take a holistic approach.
I like to think of our relationship as one in which we will try and work things out together in the hope of bringing an awareness to what is no longer serving you, what it’s role may have been; and with that awareness, find a space in which it’s possible to make choices that support you to feel more fulfilled, more authentic, and more closely aligned with what’s important to you; so particularly if you are feeling stuck or have a general feeling of unease and dissatisfaction. I will closely attune to your needs and adapt my approach to what feels helpful, by deeply listening to you. Our work is always open for review.
I am trauma informed and draw on mindfulness and compassion practice to foster awareness, emotional regulation, the ability to sit with the uncomfortableness and build resilience. I have a particular interest in third wave CBT therapies such as ACT, MBCT and CFT that involve looking at our internal world and how we relate to it. In working with these models I may invite you to practice, or suggest exercises outside of the session, in order to strengthen the skill of awareness, as well as to experience ( in the felt sense) different ways of being, opening the door to new possibilities.
I have worked in a mental health setting since 2016 previously having worked for a busy wellbeing service at MIND.
