Maria Guiñazu

Counselling Psychologist & Psychotherapist

HCPC-Registered Counselling Psychologist, BPS Chartered Psychologist & BACP Accredited Psychotherapist.

I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, emotions, relationships and sense of self. My approach is integrative and collaborative, drawing on psychological, somatic and expressive therapies to support meaningful and lasting change.

I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy and an MSc in Psychology of Education from UCL. I am registered with the HCPC, a Chartered Psychologist with the BPS, and a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist. My aim is to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, reconnect with your resources and create space for change — at a pace that feels right for you.

I work with adults, couples, families and adolescents experiencing difficulties including trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, substance misuse, grief, relationship difficulties, stress and life transitions. I have particular expertise in complex and relational trauma, attachment, embodied processes and the connection between psychological and physical wellbeing.

My work draws on EMDR, DBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic, existential, person-centred and somatic approaches, alongside Polyvagal Theory and expressive arts. Where appropriate, we may explore movement, creative writing, drawing or imagination alongside talking therapy, particularly when experiences feel difficult to express through words alone.

Originally trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Argentina, I have extensive experience across private, public and charitable services in Argentina and the UK, including specialist trauma, domestic abuse, addiction and eating disorder services. Alongside my clinical practice, I am a trained Clinical Supervisor and registered on the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAAPS). I provide individual and group supervision and support practitioners in developing their clinical skills, reflective practice and confidence in working with complex presentations. I also lecture and supervise doctoral research in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy.
